PADI Tec Instructor – 40 meters

Tec Instructor has a nice sound to it, especially if you’re a PADI Instructor interested in technical (tec) diving and ready to combine your interests. The Tec Instructor course is your entry into the tec diving world and your opportunity to join the PADI TecRec professional ranks. As a Tec Instructor, you’ll be qualified to conduct Discover Tec programs, teach the Tec 40 course and assist a Tec Deep Instructor with Tec 45 Diver courses (which is a great way to gain experience).

If you’re serious about becoming a technical instructor and joining the ranks of PADI technical instructors, the Tec Diver Instructor course is an obvious choice.

PADI TEC INSTRUCTOR PREREQUISITES 

  • To enroll in a Tec Instructor course, you must:

  • Be a renewed PADI Instructor
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Diver
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor, or have completed a PADI Enriched Air Instructor course.
  • Be a PADI Deep Specialty Instructor, or have completed a PADI Deep Specialty Instructor course.
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 20 enriched air dives, 25 dives deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 15 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet.

Prior to sending in your Tec Instructor application, you must also:

  • Be a renewed PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor
  • Be a PADI Deep Specialty Instructor
  • Be a Tec 45 Diver
  • Have a minimum of 20 stage decompression dives
  • Have successfully completed the Tec Instructor course exams
  • Note that qualifying certifications from other diver training organizations may apply – ask your Tec Instructor Trainer.

Academic

If you aren’t a certified tec diver, then your Tec Instructor course will include the entire Tec 40 and 45 Diver course. Part One of the course focuses on the knowledge and skills required for technical deep diving. Part Two fine-tunes your ability to conduct knowledge development, practical application and open water teaching segments. You’ll also go over the philosophy, organization and marketing considerations for technical diver training.

PADI TEC DEEP INSTRUCTOR

This PADI Tec Instructor course incorporates instructional philosophies and course goals that directly address the demanding and challenging nature of technical diving and can be offered in either back mount or sidemount configurations, or both.

PADI Tec Deep Instructor Course Prerequisites

To enrol in this course, you must

  • Be a renewed PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or a PADI Instructor with a higher rating)
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor, or have successfully completed a PADI Enriched Air Instructor Training course.
  • Be a PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor or have successfully completed a PADI Deep Diver Speciality Instructor Training course.
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives where at least 20 dives were made with enriched air nitrox, 25 dives were deeper than 18 metres/ 60 feet and at least 15 dives were deeper than 30 metres/ 100 feet.

Note that PADI Tec Deep Diver is not required.  If you are not certified as a PADI Tec Deep Diver (or equivalent), then the Tec Deep Instructor training course must include the entire Tec Deep Diver course.

TDI trimix and PADI trimix Courses

PADI Tec Trimix Instructor – 90 meters

Tec Deep Instructors provide the most comprehensive technical instruction available. If you are both a Tec Deep Instructor and Tec Trimix Diver, then the Tec Trimix Instructor trainer course is for you. This course overviews how to teach the theory, planning, equipment and procedures for Helium-based dives, using air, Nitrox and oxygen.

As a Tec Trimix Instructor you can teach the full range of deep open-circuit tec diving courses, including Tec Trimix 65 and Tec Trimix Diver.

To enroll in a Tec Trimix Instructor course, you must:

Prior to sending in your Tec Trimix Instructor application, you must also:

  • Be a PADI Tec Deep Instructor
  • Have assisted with at least one Tec Trimix Diver course
  • Have a minimum of 350 logged dives, with 50 decompression dives deeper than 40 metres/130 feet of which 30 dives must be deeper than 40 metres/130 feet using trimix and 10 dives deeper than 50 metres/165 feet using trimix with less than 21 percent oxygen.
  • Have successfully completed the Tec Trimix Instructor course exams
 

Academic

You begin your training by reviewing the Tec Trimix course content and practical skills. Then, you complete multiple practice teaching scenarios in the classroom and in the water to ensure you know how to cover all the materials, organize skill practice and control open water dives.

PADI Tec Sidemount Instructor

Sidemount has caught on in both recreational and open-circuit tec diving as a popular alternative equipment configuration. As a Tec Sidemount Instructor, you can qualify divers to use sidemount so they can take any of the TecRec open-circuit tec courses using the configuration. You can also train divers to use sidemount within the limits of their current open-circuit TecRec certifications.

To begin the PADI Tec Sidemount Diver Course, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a renewed PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or PADI Instructor with a higher rating)
  2. Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor (or have successfully completed the PADI EANx Instructor training course)
  3. Be a PADI Deep Diver Instructor (or have successfully completed the PADI Deep Diver Instructor training course)
  4. Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, of which at least 20 were made with enriched air, 25 were deeper than 18m and at least 15 were deeper than 30m
  5. Be a PADI Tec 45 diver (or have a qualifying certification)

After successfully completing the PADI Tec Sidemount Instructor Course, you must meet the following criteria prior to submitting your application to PADI

  1. Be a PADI Tec Instructor (or TecRec Instructor with a higher rating)
  2. Be a PADI Tec Sidemount Diver (or have a qualifying certification). The PADI Tec Sidemount Diver course may be run with the instructor course
  3. Have logged at least 20 tec sidemount dives including 10 with 3 or more cylinders (2 main and 1 or more stage/deco cylinders)
  4. Have successfully completed the Tec Sidemount Instructor Course.
