The SSI Open Water Diver course is the very basic of Scuba Diving.
At Blue Label, we believe that dive training needs to be fun, while obtaining high level skill set at the same time. Hence, after all these years dwelling in the technical end of diving, we are now offering recreational courses.
We believe that everyone deserve to be trained by the best, even from the very start.
As you can see, the Open Water course is pretty much self-explanatory. Generally, it prepares a diver to dive anywhere in the world up to a maximum depth of 18m without direct supervision of a dive professional. So we will give you the know-hows adapt to the unpredictable, yet magnificent underwater world!
What do you do and where do we teach you
Your course breaks down into 3 separate parts – the theory sessions, the classroom sessions and the open water sessions. The objective of the open water diver course is to prepare you to handle yourself independently.
A 3 days course consists of 1 day theory+pool session, and two days of open water dives. We do offer a 4 days course as well, which breaks down the theory and pool session into two days, so you will have more time and comfort during the pool session.
Theory session SSI Open Water Diver Course
Upon registration, Blue Label will send you an email containing online materials. It will save time for you if you finish it prior to your course. Our instructor then conduct a class to reinforce your knowledge in diving, before moving on to the pool sessions.
Pool Session SSI Open Water Diver Course
Acting as a simulator of the open water dives, you will practice diving skills in both shallow and deep section of the pool. We use a pool of a private resort, which has a 5m deep section. This enables us to conduct actual scuba diving skills underwater, and narrows the conditional gap between the pool and open sea for you.
Open Water Session SSI Open Water Diver Course
On the next day, we will conduct your Open Water training session at nearby islands. As we limit our diving depth to 12m on all dives on day 1, the twin island of Racha is a good option. Racha Islands consist of Racha Yai and Racha Noi, which are 45 minutes of boat ride away from each other. The Racha islands is known for having shallow bays, smooth sandy bottom suitable for skill training. On this day you will have a half day trip, which consists of 3 dives.
For your second day of open water training, we bring our students to the deeper dive sites of the Racha island or to the Phi Phi Islands. You also need to have 3 training dives to do, with a maximum depth of 18m.
At Blue Label, you will have 6 dives upon course completion. As the general SSI standards, the SSI Open Water Diver Course only requires 4 dives, this means that you are way more experienced that an average open water diver upon graduation!
