SSI Search Recovery Specialty course

The SSI Search Recovery Specialty course is a very rewarding course. For instance, can you recall the dreadful feeling when you see your precious camera slowly sinking to the bottom of the sea?

What about that instance where you found something precious underwater which is to dense for you to lift? Or even to help a fellow diver to look for the dive computer he dropped on the previous dive?

A search and recovery specialty course changes you from that worried onlooker into a man with a plan. When a situation arises, you will have a clear search and recovery plan in your mind, and have the right technique to recover the said item.

Cliché apart, the search and recovery course is not meant for searching for a missing diver. That is the designation of the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue course. In this course, we focus in search patterns training to look for missing items and the use of buoyancy devices like a lift bag to bring it back to the surface.

What do you do and where do we teach you

We conduct the SSI Search Recover Specialty course in any body of open water. Usually, we conduct the course around the Racha Islands, where we have a nice sandy bottom.

We simulate the search of an item by dropping heavy objects such as a weighted device underwater before entry. You then use a directional indicator such as a compass to start a search pattern.

Upon discovery the whereabouts of the ‘missing’ item, you then recover it by lifting it up to the surface by a lift bag.

Your training divides into two main dives. The first focus on the search pattern training, because the second requires you to devise a plan to recover the item.
